On Top of Spaghetti is a great campfire song! You can probably sing the first line or two - but what comes after "I lost my poor meatball"? Keep reading for the complete lyrics!
This is actually a parody of the song "On Top of Old Smokey". Those words are here too.
This is a perfect song for the whole family to sing around the campfire.

The words

On top of spaghetti
All covered with cheese
I lost my poor meatball
When somebody sneezed.
It rolled off the table
And onto the floor
And then my poor meatball
Rolled out of the door.
It rolled in the garden
And under a bush
And then my poor meatball
Was nothing but mush.
The mush was as tasty
As tasty could be
And early next summer
It grew into a tree.
The tree was all covered
With beautiful moss
It grew great big meatballs
And tomato sauce.
So if you eat spaghetti
All covered with cheese
Hold on to to your meatballs
And don't ever sneeze.

The books
The video
This clip is from an old TV show called Swap Shop. It's missing the last few verses, but it's pretty funny!
The original
This song is a parody of an old folk song called "On Top Of Old Smokey". The original song has many versions. Here is one:
|
On top of Old Smokey,
All covered with snow,
I lost my true lover,
From courting too slow.
On top of Old Smokey,
I went there to weep.
A false hearted lover
Is worse than a thief.
For a thief, he will rob you
And take what you have
But a false hearted lover
Will send you to your grave.
On top of Old Smokey
All covered with snow
I lost my true lover
From courting too slow.
